Gregory R.D. Evans is the Founding Chairman of the Department of Plastic Surgery at the University of California Irvine. He is the Bruce F. Connell Endowed Chair in Plastic Surgery. At UC Irvine, Dr. Evans holds appointments as the Distinguished Professor of Plastic Surgery.
Recognized as a national and international academic leader, Dr. Evans is currently President of the World Society for Reconstructive Microsurgery, Vice President for California Society of Plastic Surgeons, Chair of the American Alpine Workshop in Plastic Surgery and the President of the Orange County Society of Plastic Surgeons. He has previously served as the President of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons and the Director of the American Board of Plastic Surgery.
Dr. Evans has devoted much of his academic career to improving the residency program. He has established a fully integrated residency program and developed a practice that consists of microvascular surgery, aesthetic surgery, and cancer reconstruction. Dr. Evans established an international reputation and was instrumental in assisting with the advancement and initial establishment of the research laboratory. His early research career focused on tissue engineering specifically as it involves nerve regeneration and the creation of nerve constructs.
Dr. Evans earned his Bachelor of Science and Physiology degrees at the University of Southern California and his Doctor of Medicine degree at the University of Souther California School of Medicine. He completed his internship in General Surgery at Los Angeles County – University of Southern California Medical Center, followed by Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery residency at the Johns Hopkins Hospital – University of Maryland. After residency, Dr. Evans completed a Craniofacial – Microvascular Surgery Fellowship at Maryland Institute for Emergency Medical Service Systems.
Dr. Evans is board-certified by the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Plastic Surgery.
He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
As a busy clinician, Dr. Evans developed his leadership skills while maintaining his clinical interests. He has been consistently recognized as one of Orange Coast Magazine’s Physicians of Excellence. He had received many other honors including the Castle Connolly Top Doctor, America’s Most Honoured Doctors – Top 1%, America’s Best Plastic Surgeons, Newsweek America’s Best Plastic Surgeons and Top Plastic Surgeons in Orange County.
